New Business

* Dave Fogleman discussed the rule that was changed last year for the judges to pay the contestant a rider fee be changed. He doesn’t like the rule and doesn’t think its fair. He does not feel that this is a good rule. Every $10 of the fee we pay for a tournament goes into the Classic pot and the contestant fishes for the lion’s share of the classic pot. It differs from a regular club tournament. Everyone comes away with a check and he feels that the rule doesn’t bode well.

MOTION TO AMEND THE RULE and remove the 3-11-10 rider fee: Dave Fogleman and Don Patton.

MOTION: Passed

* Bill discussed that the Classic tournament only be the top ten people from the club. Open discussion.

* MOTION: If additional judges are needed for the Classic and the judges didn’t fish the mandatory 5 tournaments that a member can buy their way into the Classic tournament.

Treasury report: Handed out a document out lining our expenses for the 2010 year.

Club dues are $60 and $55 goes to Federation dues, etc.

The Fishing show has hampered our revenue. We are good for a couple of years but we may have to seriously consider a second trout pond at the Outdoor-Rama. We have a cushion but we are looking at it going down some and we need to bring this back up some how.

Suggest raising the entry to tournaments from $20 to $25. This may help but would have to be discussed as an option.

Volunteer for a new board member. Jay Bise cannot make this commitment for his place as a board member. Jay wants to bow out and we need to replace him.

DAVE FOGLEMAN: tournament report. Still working on a few of the lakes for this year. Other than these few items we are all set. Senior passes: $15. Boat and a truck are double. It would be a good idea to buy the correct stickers for your car and boat.

Michigan Bassbusters General Meeting April 10, 2008

Meeting called to order by Dave Fogleman: 7:35

Roll Call Darren: 21 present and one guest

Guest: Jay Bice

Treasurer’s report:

  1. Dave Fogleman:

    • Expired Bass memberships expiration dates. Make sure that your membership is up to date prior to the first tournament.

    • Kids tournaments. Dave asked that some of the boaters help out at the tournaments for the kids. There will be a $10 Bass membership. This year the kids will have to pay $5 a tournament to offset some of the costs of gas. Thinking about doing this and Chris will be calling members to do their part in helping out in the tournaments. State fish off will be a challenge for the state championship in White Lake in Muskegon County.

    • People not attending meetings: Roll call light during winter meetings. Discussed the fact that our club meetings are important and that attending meetings are important because we are doing planning for the following year. Attending 50% of club activities will possibly be amended to "club meetings". If you are at work and cannot make the meeting because of work, which is important, it is considered an excused absence, or if you are sick. This is a bi-law.

DISCUSSION: Paul Sacks suggested that we have a meeting with them if they are missing many meetings so we can make sure that there is a democratic way to make sure it is fair for the member.

  2. Darren will contact someone if they are getting close to missing more than 50% of their meetings

    • As a Federation member you can get discounts on products from the federation website. See Paul Sacks to see if there is a Federation discount.

    • Don Patton: Electron scales for this years tournaments. He went and found some prices for this. $ 18 for this and is compatible with the read out of our scale.3 different models that we can purchase. $395, $495, and $750 for the largest scale. Liked the electronic scale for all to see. Recommendation from the tournament committee.

DISCUSSION: What size is the club proposing for this modification. Paul Sacks: Other options that we may be able to look at.

VOTED to buy this product and spend the money for the club to purchase this. PASSED.

  3. Terry Melvin: Discussion of a proposal: Cancel any said tournament due to lack of participation of at least 50% of the previous years club average and shall be no less than seven boats (this was voted on my members to be seven boats). In the event of this circumstance the tournament director at that time, shall remove said tournament and replace it with another. Only one tournament per year will be allowed to be replaced with another. All other tournaments that have low participation will be cancelled. Tournament dates and lakes that are replaced with another are the sole determination of the tournament director for that year.

MOTION: Not 7 boats that the lake be changed to a different lake the day of the sign up. Passed by a vote of show of hands.

MOTIONS: voted for this to be part of our rules and passed at 15 yeas, 4 nays.

DISCUSSION: Paul Sacks. Concerns about this suggested rule. Does not find the motion to be something that would benefit the club. Feels it will knock out the Charlevoix Tournament. Paul: Feels the tournament director has too much control over the lakes that are selected and that cause problems within the club. Should we look at a whole new system, put new rules in, etc.

Bert Littlejohn: Concerns that 7 boats are to little and would like to see if the vote goes through that 8 would be better. 51% is a majority. Feels it does not state a full majority of boaters.

Dave Fogleman: Discussion about why this was brought up and the other side of the arguments of Paul. More of the costs to the member that financially cannot go is a significant factor as to why they would not fish the lake.

Dale: Discussed that the whole club votes on the entire season and the lakes that were picked by the tournament committee.

Bill: the club having the right to vote on things of substance. That the tournament director does not pick the lake by himself but that committee makes the suggestions and that is not selected by one person.

  4. Terry Melvin:

    • Tournament Rules. To be voted on tonight and discussed among the members. Terry Melvin. Asked that all insurance be taken care of before the first tournament.

    • Reading of the Rules by Terry Melvin:

    • MOTION BY JAY BERWICK: Seconded by Terry. PASSED THAT WE CHANGE THE RULE FROM DEAD OR DYING TO DEAD ONLY. This rule change passed by a vote of 21-0. Amend the rule in our tournament rules.

    • Motion to amend rule for dragging with rod in hand: MOTION PASSED>

    • MOTION TO RAISE BOATER FEES: $20 for inland lakes and amount to be mutually agreed upon to with a minimum of $30. MOTION PASSED.

    • MOTION IN SIGHT FISHING TOURNAMENT TO STAND ONLY ON THE DECK ONLY/ You cannot build a ladder or something to increase your height limit. Paul Sacks…second by Jason Hurst. MOTION PASSED.

    • PAUL SACKS: MOTION THAT THE WRITTEN PROTEST BE ANNOUNCED BEFORE THE CLOSING OF THE SCALES. Seconded NONE

    • MOTION TO CHANGE THE LUNKER AWARD FROM 4 TO 5 POUNDS ON ALL WATERS. SECONDED BY HANK. MOTION PASSED.

    • MOTION TO HAVE ALL JIGS TAKEN OUT OF THE MOUTH OF THE FISH BEFORE THAT FISH IS WEIGHED IN OR A PENALTY WILL BE ENFORCED AT A HALF OUNCE PENALTY AND DEDUCTED FROM THE WEIGHT OF THE TOTAL WEIGHT. IF THERE IS A WEIGHT IN THE MOUTH OR WEIGHTED HOOK. SECONDED BY HANK: MOTION: Passed
